About The Dugout

With hundreds of top flight appearances between them and league titles and FA Cups to boast, our excellent panel of former Premier League professionals give their take on the big stories from the players’ perspective every week on The Dugout. From being punched in the tunnel to playing whilst hungover – you’re never far away from a story or two on this weekly show from Football Social Daily!

Meet the hosts

Trevor Steven

Trevor Steven

In the mid-1980s, Trevor won the league title twice as part of a legendary Everton side who also picked up the FA Cup. Having played for Burnley as well as the Toffees, plus successful stints with Rangers and Marseille, the former England international has a wealth of experience in the game which shines through when he’s on the podcast. He also remains adamant that former team mate Gary Lineker is the laziest player he ever trained with...
Francis Benali

Francis Benali

A legend at Southampton, Francis Benali’s top flight career spanned 14 years and coincided with the emergence of the Premier League era. Having played for his boyhood club more than 370 times, Franny has seen the good, the bad and the ugly at St Mary’s – and we aren’t talking about his facial hair!
Dean Hammond

Dean Hammond

Hard-working midfielder Dean Hammond forged his career in the lower leagues with boyhood club Brighton – where he was captain at just 21 - before moving to Southampton and securing promotion to the Premier League. Dean then repeated the feat at Leicester where he played the bulk of his top flight football. Thankfully on the podcast, his opinions aren’t quite as strong as some of his tackles were!
Matt Jarvis

Matt Jarvis

Rapid wide man Matt Jarvis got his first taste of Premier League football at Wolves, before joining West Ham for a club-record fee and later turning out for Norwich City in the top flight also. In 2011, Matt was capped by England for his impressive top-flight displays. Look out for Jarvo’s plush choice of furniture when he appears on the show – we still haven’t found out where he got it...
Sol Bamba

Sol Bamba

Warrior would be an appropriate way to describe former Leicester, Cardiff and Leeds defender Sol Bamba. Not only because of his performances over the years, but also due to the way he valiantly fought off cancer in 2021. A soldier on the pitch but a sweetheart off of it, ex-PSG centre back Sol is still playing for Middlesbrough in the Championship and remains in close contact with compatriots and Premier League legends Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure.
Matty Fryatt

Matty Fryatt

Matty Fryatt was a goal machine during his playing days and notched up more than 100 professional league strikes in his career. Revered at Leicester City where he broke numerous records, it was in fact at Hull City where Matty played his Premier League football. Fondly remembered by Tigers’ supporters for his part in the run to the 2014 FA Cup Final, Matty’s honesty on the podcast is as sharp as his finishing.
Paul Dickov

Paul Dickov

Proof that tenacity and bloody-mindedness can bring about a successful career in the game, former Scotland striker Paul Dickov was a nuisance to defenders up and down the country. Learning his trade at Arsenal from the likes of Ian Wright, Paul moved to Manchester City in 1996 where he became a cult hero. With top-flight experience at Leicester City and Blackburn to call upon, plus spells at current Premier League sides Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leeds during a career which spanned 21 seasons, Dickov is never short of tales to tell on the podcast.
Niall McCaughan

Niall McCaughan

Niall is the only member of the podcast who hasn't played in the Premier League, but we'll let him off because we need a host! A football commentator and presenter, Niall asks the questions on The Dugout - even if as a big Pompey fan he has to interact with Francis Benali.
