Roll Britannia – A British Dungeons & Dragons 5e Podcast

As the Dungeon Master of Roll Britannia, you might expect me to have years of D&D experience, but no, I'd never played any form of D&D before starting this podcast. Why then, you might ask, would you decide to be a Dungeon Master and record it all? Well, when you ask people to play D&D with you it just seems rude to ask them to run the game too (Plus who else could bring Captain SM Timbers to the world). Now many years on I find myself not just the DM for Roll Britannia, but TikTok's DungeonMasterUK, so I can say for certain that if you were thinking of giving D&D a try and weren't sure if you had the experience to Dungeon Master, you absolutely can.

Paul Horton

Paul grew up in the Midlands, but has lived and worked in all sorts of places across the world over the last 16 years during his filmmaking career, if not found behind a camera, you’ll find him behind a computer screen editing various video projects. Now a Dad of two theres not much time to travel to far flung places and during Covid found an escape in D&D. In Roll Britannia he plays Malrus Tosscobble a Cleric with a hidden past. As the story begins Malrus is seeking his brother Milo whom he was recently separated from. On receiving news of his brother’s whereabouts Malrus stopping at nothing to get his life back together straps on his sea legs and joins a ship's crew and is thrown together with the other scoundrels during a Kraken attack. Will his past catch up with him? Will he ever find his brother again? Will he ever be taken seriously by his fellow crew mates? Who knows...

Chip Butt

Chip (Real Name Unknown) is a passionate individual who realised at a very early age that he was born to perform. Using performance as a mechanism to better understand how to deal with social interactions, an issue his Asperges Syndrome and Bi-Polar disorder had often presented to him, Chip pursued a Performing Arts qualification and trained with the National Youth Theatre, side-stepping into videography and now landed enthusiastically in the magical world of Dungeons and Dragons. In Roll Britannia, Chips first dally into DnD, he plays Jeff Silverbow, a human boy trying to flee the city. Some would say there’s more to him than meets the eye, some think he’s just a bit odd. Having now found himself amongst some seemingly lovable scoundrels, will Jeff ever just find somewhere to call home again, or will a young boy prove to be more of a hindrance at sea?

Alex Troman

Filmmaker, photographer and artist based in Bristol and working across the UK. In Roll Britannia he plays Derek Normalbeard, a semi-retired gangster with a totally real and normal beard (think Michael Caine but shorter and angrier). As our story begins, Derek seeks adventure to break up the monotony of his reluctant retirement, but as he joins up with a crew of seafaring ne’er do wells, pieces of his sordid past begin to come to light. Will Derek ever calm down, and can he learn to trust?

Tom Monaghan

Tom Monaghan grew up in the Midlands, but has lived and worked in all sorts of places across the world during a ten year career in the British Army. Now a veteran and a family man, he claims to be a jack of all trades, knows a little bit about a lot of things and is still figuring out what he wants to be when he grows up. In most situations, he finds that the best solution can be found by deploying a healthy dose of wit, sarcasm and a good dollop of boyish enthusiasm. Roll Britannia is Tom’s first foray into D&D where he voices Keth Frostiron, a gregarious and beer-loving Half-Orc who can’t resist a good scrap. As Keth recklessly throws himself into this new world of swashbuckling with a ragtag bunch of misfits, just what is he so eagerly trying to get away from, and will he change along the way?
